Shackleton Centenary Expedition

Why Timberland chose to support the expedition August 17 2008

Timberland

Timberland have been a source of outstanding help, creating a range of performance clothing for us which we will use down in Antarctica. Here is Louise Barnes of Timberland, explaining why they got involved:

"The shared values of authenticity, individual challenge and conquest of the outdoors, combined with a clear commitment to the environment means the Shackleton Centenary Expedition has an excellent fit with Timberland.

The outdoors is and always has been a fundamental part of Timberland's DNA and this expedition is a great opportunity to showcase Timberland in an outdoor environment. The expedition members will be relying on bespoke technical apparel to withstand tough Antarctic conditions; this is an ideal vehicle for us to prove our outdoor capabilities in the most extreme of environments. The authenticity and heritage of the original expedition has also given us unique design inspiration for a casual collection that encapsulates the spirit of Shackleton and the heroism of his men.

Timberland is committed to manufacturing products and conducting business in an environmentally and socially responsible way. The scientific arm of the expedition underscores our commitment to the environment. Blue ice samples taken along the expedition route will help scientists understand the effects of global warming over the last 100 years, from 1908 to 2008."

Louise Barnes, European Marketing Director, Timberland.
