Shackleton Centenary Expedition

The waiting game November 01 2008

The sharp-eyed amongst you will have noticed that the countdown to the expedition has stopped. Henry Worsley, Will Gow, and Henry Adams are curently at Punta Arenas, at 53° 10'S 70° 56'W, the world's southernmost city, on the Brunswick Peninsula, in the Magallanes region of Chile.

From here, they will fly to Patriot Hills Airbase in Antarctica and then down to Shackleton's hut, close to Mount Erebus - the world's southernmost volcano.

Once they are down on the ice, we will be able to provide you updates as and when they happen through an interactive map that we have been producing behind the scenes with Erskine Design. You will be able to read entries from Sir Ernest Shackleton's diary of the Nimrod Expedition, Heart of the Antarctic, and then look to see where the current team are a century later.

In the meantime, click here to listen to Henry Worsley talk about their time at Punta Arenas.
