In a very successful charity auction dinner last night at The Avenue in St James's, London, over £61,000 was raised for the Shackleton Foundation. There are so many people to thank, including the donators of some stunning auction prizes, and of course, the bidders.
Special thanks must go out to Charlotte and Joanna who helped put the whole event together.
One of the highlights for us was an inspirational talk by our Fundraising Patron, Robert Swan who lit up the room. Another highlight has to have been the £10,000 bid to win the right to name the villain in Andy McNabb's next novel.
Andy had this to say about the Shackleton Foundation:
"I'm delighted to have the opportunity to support this new charity.
"Shackleton has always been a hero of mine, and I think the Foundation's mission to identify similarly inspiring leaders in today's world is excellent."
Last night that the Shackleton Foundation gave out its first £10,000 Shackleton Leadership Award to Envision, a pioneering charity which supports young people to develop the skills, awareness, confidence and motivation necessary to lie at the heart of positive change.
It's 3 core principles are as follows:
1. Within every individual lies the desire and capacity to create positive change - all that is required is the opportunity.
2. Learning by doing is more effective than simply learning through instruction.
3. Positive change is brought about by examples of individuals and groups making a difference, 'the ripple effect'.
