The Candian newspaper, The Globe and Mail have looked at the qualities that Shackleton was looking for in prospective polar team mates in 1908, before looking at what we're doing. Here's an excerpt:
"A century later, in a restaurant just off Regent Street, where until very recently flocks of bankers drank vodka shots at a bar made of ice, two men are examining the puffy coats they hope will keep them warm in Antarctica.
"The deceptively lightweight jackets have been designed by Timberland, the clothing retailer, and bear the name of the expedition's main sponsor, financial-services company The Matrix Group, in large letters. "I don't think we're going to struggle massively with the cold," says Will Gow, the shorter of the two men."
Let's hope so.
